Meeting
time change in order to accommodate kitchen crew
o
Sadie: bag lunch idea wouldn’t work
o
Khaleel: Friday before the music workshop
o
Daniel: 1:30 – 3 would be a good time
o
Mike: there will always be a reason to change the
meeting day/time; it is working
now; lets leave it and figure out ways
to work around it; would like to see it
go back to 10am, we should quit at 11:45;
not sure it is worth all this time to figure out how to get the kitchen
there
o
Ron: the focus should be on finding someone to
make the meal – the community members made it clear it was a problem – don’t
really like to 10am meeting but maybe 10:15;
o
Kris: no one brought up this in the beginning –
maybe there is a way to put a mic and speaker in the kitchen
o
Daneen: another cooking group should be able to do
what needs to be done if we have someone come in
o
Daniel: proposes that we go with 10:15-11:45 would be
the meeting and we could take turns rotating in and out of who is cooking – and
we would begin looking for groups to cook the meal instead of Sadie
o
Ron: suggests that we don’t use this proposal
since this is basically what we are already doing – lets just try to figure out
the kitchen problem
-
Ron:
we are beginning a process to meet in
small groups to have some more intimate discussion; ron suggests that we focus less on
controlling the negative and more about exploring the positive – less rules to
enforce, but a dynamic process to capture great ideas so that this is a place
that we like; we will spend 3-4 minutes
discussing things in small groups and then come back to the whole to discuss
ideas
o
Some
potential aspects of a “system that captures volunteer energy to better
individuals, OCP, and the surrounding community”
o
Aspects
could include: ideas/complaints,
qualifications/expectations, privileges/rewards, governance/adjudication,
power/control
o
Ideas/complaints
– what does one do with an idea or a complaint
o
Qualifications/expectations
– if there were something like a membership, what does one have to do to be a
part of it and what would be expected of this type of system
o
Privileges/rewards
– are there certain privileges that some gets from being a part of this group
o
Governance/adjudication
– how do we run ourselves, rules, a code of behavior, if someone is way out of
line
o
Power/control
– thinking about what/how people might deal with the new power that could come
along with some sort of membership
o
Also,
how do we manage the grounds and the physical plant and open hours and when we
can play volleyball
o
Jonathan
would like to see a notetaker in each group
o
Mike: worries that there will be some bleeding from
one idea to another
o
Anna,
Kris, Heather, Mike, Sarah: talked a lot
about qualifications – people who are routinely contributing to OCP in a
positive way – figure out a certain amount of volunteer time, people who are
participating in work days, night out, lawn jam; maybe people who are part of early church; after you have met the benchmarks, do you
automatically become a member or do you have to be voted in somehow – no real
consensus on this; once you are a
member, you are expected to follow the norms or you could be suspended from
membership; time spent on qualitative
properties and less quantitative
o
Mike,
Jamie, Gary: there was a feeling of
maybe forgetting the idea of membership and move on; one issue that keeps coming up is behavior –
drinking on the property, people being here on off hours; did discuss what it will take to become a
member – actually doing something, participate in Tuesday workdays, food prep,
Friends of OCP meetings; lets rotate
jobs; is the person a helpful person to
begin with might be some sort of qualification – when food gets donated out
back, who jumps up? – this might be difficult to measure, but people will know
it when they see it
o
Jonathan,
Daneen, Daniel, Philip: something
separate from Friends – some requirement for volunteer work; Members should present themselves clean and
shaven – what about people who have trouble getting showers or washing clothes,
maybe a persons team would depend on their talents, looks, etc; Teams could be created and members would be
responsible for volunteer for their team;
team leaders, are people on 1 or more teams; how long can you be gone for before getting
taken off the membership, teams could
have non-members; what would privileges
for membership be; members would have no
more power or control but would be a part of something – extra responsibilities
o
Ron,
Christina, Amy, Sadie, Khaleel: control
should be held to staff, not membership;
volunteer time is important to be a member; privileges are that you get to be a part of
meetings and have your ideas heard; privilege might be access to the
property; some sort of judiciary that
might hear a case if something wrong was done – you could lose your membership
privileges;
o
Heather: is there going to be favoritism with members
by staff?
o
Kris: would really like to see some amount of time
given instead of a membership fee/dues – volunteering would be the dues;
o
Ron: what did you hear that was repeated?, what
did you hear that you liked?, what did you hear that you didn’t like?
o
Daneen: likes that members might be called Friends –
choose the people to be members based on who volunteers; if there are more people that want to become
members, then maybe there is a waiting list that is created – this will help
with a strong base
o
Mike: there is a proposal on the table to vote up
or down right now; right now we are
discussing – trying to find a friendly way to everyone; not hearing a lot of overall objection to the
idea of membership – this seems to suggest that we could come up with an ocp
friendly way to do something like this;
make OCP drama free – behavior – this is one of our deliverables
o
Khaleel: thinks there should be cameras inside and
outside ocp
o
Sarah: seconds Khaleel about cameras, and feels like
people who are highly trusted could come on the property after hours
o
Ron: likes the idea of team leaders and people on
the outside can be on teams – if you are a member you do have to be on
teams; would disagree with Daneen about
having a set number of people as members – we should have as many people that
want to be; anyone who comes to meetings
and volunteers time; within the
membership, there could be red, blue, yellow, green teams for fun activities
o
Daneen: feels strongly for how many members; also wonders about not being around for a
certain amount of time and still being a member; write down the date that people became a
member; do we really need two theater
times in one week?
o
Sarah: doesn’t think there should be an expire date
on membership – what if someone gets a job and can’t come around as much
o
Sadie: thinks membership should expire at some point
o
Daniel: even if you can’t plug in as much, you should
still be able to plug in some if you want to stay a member
o
Ron: it might be interesting to figure out the
details about what membership might look like and then vote with some sort of
proposal
o
Philip: really likes the idea of teams and going
ahead with flushing it out
